About

Bear Paw Arts Journal takes its name from the Bears Paw Mountains in north central Montana, known locally as "The Bear Paws." These mountains were originally named by the native Cree and Blackfeet people as "The Mountains of the Bear."

The Bears Paw Mountains were formed by volcanic activity. They are a unique landscape of rolling hills, steeper mountains and buttes, grassland and tree cover. Beaver Creek runs through the mountain range, and two lakes, Bear Paw Lake and Lower Beaver Creek Lake, sparkle under the big blue sky. The varied terrain is beautiful and unexpected in the middle of the high plains.

Bear Paw Arts Journal seeks to publish poetry, flash fiction, and micro essays that, like the Bears Paw Mountains, surprise and delight with each new turn.
